Frequently Asked Questions

At Innerstela, every question is an invitation to understand the depth of our process and the uniqueness of your memorial. Each answer is designed not only to reassure but to help you feel the value of transforming memory into art.

+ How much ash from my loved one is needed for an Innerstela photograph?

Only the smallest trace, around 1 milligram. Nothing more. This subtle amount allows us to reveal the unique galaxy within the ashes while ensuring your loved one’s cremains remain whole and intact. After the process, every particle is carefully returned to you.

Your artwork will arrive alongside the ceremonial box, holding both the photograph and the untouched ashes, a profound balance between memory and continuation.

+ How much does it cost?

Each Innerstela memorial is valued at $1,900 USD.

Our pricing is expressed in U.S. dollars to make this experience available worldwide. Stripe, our secure global payment partner, automatically converts the amount into your local currency.

The value lies not in paper and ink, but in knowing you hold a work of art that is singular in the world — made only from your loved one’s essence, and certified as such.

+ How long will I wait to receive my artwork?

The creation of an Innerstela Print is not rushed. It requires 45 days from the moment we receive your loved one´s sample.

This time reflects our commitment to precision, respect, and artistry. During the process, you will receive updates at every significant stage, so you remain part of the journey.

What arrives to you is not just a photograph, but a timeless piece prepared for generations.

+ What exactly is the process?

Once your ceremonial box arrives and you place the ashes inside, your sample is secured, registered, and given a unique traceable code.

The artist takes the ashes into her microscopy laboratory. Here, through her patented process, the singular cosmic structures hidden in the ashes reveal themselves.

She does not take “many photographs.” She captures the one image that most profoundly expresses the story and beauty she perceives.

The ashes are resealed, untouched, and returned to their container with your hologram security seals.

The chosen photograph is printed under her supervision on museum-grade Hahnemühle paper, accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.

The result: a work of art that is both scientific and poetic, alive with meaning, and exclusively yours.

+ Can an Innerstela be created if my loved one was buried, not cremated?

Our process requires cremated remains. Burial does not allow us to create the same cosmic image.

+ What if we choose to recover a buried urn or on a designated space?

We honor every family’s decision in their grief. If the family has chosen, together, to recover the urn, we stand fully in support of that courageous choice.

+ How many photographs can be created from one sample?

We create only one. The artist captures the most powerful image, the one that becomes your Innerstela bespoke artwork.

This ensures that what you hold is not one of many, but a singular creation that exists nowhere else in the universe.

+ Can I request multiple prints? Do I need to send more ashes?

No additional ashes are required. From the single chosen image, we can create as many fine art prints as you wish. However, only one original will ever carry the Hahnemühle Certificate of Authenticity and holographic seals.

Copies may be ordered, but exclusivity is protected: the certified original remains the one irreplaceable piece.

+ What does “certification” really mean?

Certification is the heart of trust at Innerstela.

Each certified print comes on Hahnemühle paper, with its Certificate of Authenticity and paired holograms. One hologram is affixed to the artwork, the other to the certificate, both carrying a matching serial number.

What does this mean for you? That the photograph is undeniably made from your loved one’s ashes — and no one else’s. That it cannot be falsified. That it is not simply art, but a irreplaceable legacy, forever linked to your family’s memory.

+ How do I begin?

Your journey begins when you confirm your commission.

Upon receiving your payment, we will send you our ceremonial box. This box is more than packaging: it is an invitation to ritual, created so that the moment of placing the ashes becomes an act of love and meaning.

From there, your memorial enters the artist’s process and transforms into an eternal artwork. commission here.

+ Can I commission an Innerstela for my pet?

Yes. We believe that bonds of love extend beyond species. Many families choose to honor their beloved companions in this way.

The process and value remain the same because their love was no less infinite.

+ How much does it cost to create a portrait of my pet?

We believe that the love we feel for our non-human companions deserves the same reverence and artistry as the memorials we create for human loved ones. For this reason, Innerstela offers a dedicated tier for pet memorials.

The cost of a pet ashes memorial is $1,700 USD. This reflects the same meticulous process of photography under the microscope, the same museum-quality Hahnemühle print, and the same certificate of authenticity while honoring that these portraits belong to a distinct category within our atelier. Only to ensure that their memory is preserved with dignity, authenticity, and timeless beauty.

+ How do I know my loved one’s ashes were truly used?

Your trust is sacred.

From the handwritten labels you complete yourself, to the serialized holograms and the secure tracking system we have built, every safeguard exists for one reason: to ensure that your photograph is created only and exclusively from your loved one’s ashes.

+ Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we serve families worldwide.

Please note that each country has its own regulations regarding the transport of cremated remains. Shipping costs, customs, and import duties are the responsibility of the recipient. These must be fulfilled to receive your memorial.

This ensures that your artwork is delivered with integrity and respect across borders.

+ What if I find it emotionally difficult to take ashes from the urn?

This is natural. Many do.

Remember: Innerstela was born when the artist herself lost her father. She knows this moment intimately.

For some, following the ritual included with your ceremonial box transforms this act into one of the most profound and healing experiences of their lives. Families often choose to perform it together, creating a shared memory of love.

If you prefer, you may also entrust this step to your funeral home, a close friend, or if you are in Mexico City, you may book a private session with the artist herself.

+ How safe is it to send ashes by mail?

Your trust and your loved one’s remains are protected at every step.

We work with specialized international security partners to ensure ashes are monitored from collection to delivery. In the U.S., USPS Priority Mail Express is an approved option.

+ Where are the ashes kept during the process?

Your ceremonial box, with its sample, is safeguarded within our studio in a designated, respectful space.

+ How did the artist create this process?

In her own words:

“I needed to understand what it meant to lose my father, to hold the flood of emotions that arose in his absence. An instinct told me to place his ashes under a microscope. What I discovered was a universe hidden in grief — galaxies born of loss and love. From that moment, Innerstela was born.” learn more.
